The Handley Varsity Cheerleaders competed in the recent National Cheerleader Association camp at Auburn University and was recognized for several awards. One team in large group is award the Game Time award in which a squad must display an routine that would increase crowd participation. The Handley girls did an outstanding performance and won the first place trophy with their routine. The girls also had a spectacular champion chant that was recognized and complimented on by both staff and fellow campers. The NCA staff chooses cheerleaders who stand out to compete to earn the title of All American. Eleven of the Handley squad were nominated: Chelsea Brown, Caitlin Neighbors, Anna Bonner, Selena Cottle, Keoshane Allen, LaRavian Atkinson, Kieauna Strickland, Sydney Bailey, Regan Self, Jessica Lyons and Monica Roundtree. Three of squad were awarded All American Kieauna Strickland, Regan Self, and Anna Bonner. The squad was also awarded two certificates, one for outstanding Motions and the second for Jumps. The squad worked well enough to earn a bid to nationals, receive blue ribbons for all evaluations, and a spirit stick each night. Of over two hundred other cheerleaders, Anna Bonner was awarded the Leadership Award that was given to a cheerleader who stood out above the other campers. Anna also was invited to submit a Head Instructor approved application to be an NCA staff member for next summer. Both Bronwyn Rampy and Jennifer Kirby received their NCA coaching credentials.
